  • It is with heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Rola Shoman, who departed on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the age of 61 surrounded by her loved ones at the hospice of Waterloo. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Zaid Abu-El Samid, her children whom she was truly proud of Omar and Nour, and her son-in-law, Shady. Rola also leaves behind her sisters Lana, Dema and Lara and her brother Abdullah. Rola truly enjoyed life to its fullest. She was positive and optimistic in everything she pursued. She loved her family and friends with all her heart and was one of the most giving women you could have in your life. Her zest for life was evident when you asked her “how are you?" And her infamous response “I am better than you!” Everything she did was done with pride and accomplishment, she made a difference in many lives by doing what mattered to her and those she loved. Rola was a beacon of light and hope in our lives. She had a long, difficult battle with cancer but never gave up hope. Her will to fight was beyond admirable and we thank God for every extra moment we got to spend with her. Rolas's memory will be a guiding star for all who knew her. In remembrance of this remarkable woman Rola, a gatherin...
