Bottom Line
This app is designed to be an artist sharing community where users can post their artwork including paintings, drawings, photography, and poetry. Other users can follow an artist's work, comment on it, and direct message them. There is a lot of adult content to be found on this app. There is also a lot of artwork with mature themes including violence, horror, drugs, and alcohol and more. The messaging and commenting features create risks of bullying, sexting, and meeting strangers. Because of these risks, no minor should use this app without a parent knowing. No child under 15 should use this app at all.
Talking to Your Children
If your child has been using Deviant Art, you may want to ask to see who they have been communicating with and the type of art they have been looking at. If your child has been communicating with strangers, talk to them about why this is dangerous. If they have been viewing art that is age inappropriate, ask them how they feel when they look at it. Their answers will tell you a lot about whether they are ready for the mature content found on this app.
