A bruxer wondering about dbl sided mouth guard

  • Quote

Postby Jdougc74 » Tue Nov 19, 2024 7:19 pm

I brux and use a night guard, just a single one from my dentist on the top teeth. Would a double side one with only a slight forward adjustment for my lower jaw be good to use with my CPAP machine?
I am strictly a side sleeper and I have been using the ResMed P10 cushion for the past 2 weeks.
I use a soft cervical collar and mouth tape and one ear plug on the top ear.
I wear a night brace to alleviate Planter fasciitis.
My numbers look consistently good, low IHI, but my breathing patterns show what might be uncounted Flow Limitations.
I am a little bit more rested, but seemed tired in the afternoon and by 8pm I am very tired. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I inserted my highly inaccurate sleep data in my Flow Limitations chart, haha

Most of these types of questions can only be answered by the user through trial and error. Everybody is different.

I'm also a bruxer and I've been using a nighttime occlusal device (the official name) for around 15 years. The same one! It's a custom job and was molded to my teeth, just the top.

I can't comment on using two of them, upper and lower, not sure how this would workout. Two are not needed tooth wise but perhaps it could help with apnea? Dunno.

Conrad,
Thanks for the reply.
Presently I have a dentist made one for my top teeth. There is quite a bit of adherence to my top teeth. I have heard if one has this for both top and bottom teeth, it might help keep one's mouth shut. I am not necessarily looking to control my apnea with it.
I am having neck surgery in Jan 2025 and may have to give up my soft cervical collar until I heal.
I have not had great success with chin straps, some pulled my head back, possibly making the apnea worse. So I am searching for a viable temporary option.

Same here. The thing snaps onto my teeth pretty tightly. I can't budge it with my tongue, and I have to use two fingers to remove it.

I've 'trained' my tongue to press against the roof of my mouth with the tip just touching the device's edge. This helps tremendously but isn't always 100%.
